Two Years Later: The Impact of the Inflation Reduction Act on Environmental Justice
Wednesday, August 7, 2024, marked 2 years since the implementation of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, government legislation enacted to mitigate inflation through intentional investment in improving America for now and the future. Here are some of its impact:
- Largest investment in climate action in history
- 1.5 million jobs created by 2030
- Insulin capped at $35/mo for seniors
- Prescription drugs capped at $2000/yr
Why is IRA important for EJ?
This is the first time in history that a government investment of this magnitude, approximately $400 billion, was dedicated toward clean energy, pollution reduction, and weatherization. This means communities that normally didn’t have the opportunity to improve through clean energy now have the capability to do so through grants, tax credits, and loans. Imagine how impactful a solar field could be in lowering community utility costs or increasing teacher pay and school resources. Or if you could update your home in a cost-effective way by taking advantage of home weatherization/electrification funds? This anniversary marks an important milestone in American history toward thinking about taking care of our future environment.
