Hurricane Warning, Extreme Weather Alert
Hurricane Debby is expected to hit NC this week and cause extreme flooding. According to WRAL, “Central North Carolina could get between 4 to 10 inches of rain between Tuesday and the end of the week. The flooding risk will be greater to our southeast, especially at the coast and in South Carolina”. If you are in flood-risk areas, it is important to take precautionary measures to keep yourself safe:
- If you are in a flood-risk zone, like our coastal areas or near lakes/rivers, and can temporarily relocate, you are encouraged to do so until the flooding subsides.
- If you aren’t able to adequately leave, we encourage you to stock up on household essentials if you can’t reach them. Locate any resilience centers near you in case you require emergency assistance and need to leave.
- Monitor your local news stations and weather/radar applications for weather updates.
The NC Inclusive Disaster Recovery Network states, “Hurricane Debby is forecast to bring the potential for life-threatening flash flooding, riverine flooding, gusty winds, coastal impacts, and a few tornadoes this week.” See below for additional resources
