Position: Election Protection Coordinator (Temporary)


North Carolina Black Alliance is seeking a temporary election protection coordinator to support our portfolio of voter protection activities leading up to the 2024 General Election. The coordinator will support advocacy around our county and state boards of elections, support our statewide voter protection partner hotline, and assist with our Black Legal Network legal monitoring program. The position will report to the Program Director and Deputy Director and work closely with our organizing, training, and communications staff, coalition partners, and volunteers.

This position will work closely with the Chief Finance Officer and Certified Public Accountants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the organization’s effort to advocate for clear guidance from our state and county boards of elections and quality-trained state and local election officials.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for recruiting, training, and placement of several volunteer election protectors.
  • Serve as a key part of the training team.
  • Support distributing EP materials to volunteers across the state, assigning precincts to election protectors, and returning materials to our harbor sites across the state.
  • Respond promptly to questions about our election protection program from volunteers and other community stakeholders.
  • Support the Election Protection hotline during Early Voting, as directed by our partner organizations.
  • Support the efforts of the Black Legal Network program
  • Assist with public education and communications
  • Work collaboratively with other staff, coalition partners, and contractors to implement the components of our 2024 election protection program (the advocacy, poll monitoring, Legal Network, and hotline management elements described above)

Qualifications:

  • Some familiarity with or a strong interest in North Carolina elections law and procedures and democracy issues.
  • At least 1-2 years experience in advocacy or organizing efforts.
  • Strong organizing and project coordination skills, including close attention to detail.
  • Proactive, self-starter.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and manage multiple projects at various stages of completion.
  • Clear, direct communication skills (written and verbal). Comfortable speaking on the phone to different kinds of people, including cold calls.
  • Reliable and quick at data entry. Comfortable with learning new technology quickly.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced team.

Expectations & Compensation:

  • This is a temporary contract position from October 1-December 15, 2024.
  • Salary: $3,000 per month
