Position: Democracy & Economy Program Coordinator (FTE)
The program coordinators provide the North Carolina Black Alliance (NCBA) with organizational and administrative support in alignment with the organization’s mission and commitment statements. Program coordinators are considered subject matter experts, policy analysts, and key points of contact for the organization overseeing the program implementation of NCBA’s anchor program along with coordination of our partner networks and emerging priorities in their respective issue areas. The Democracy & Economy Program Coordinator will align the efforts of the team with the priorities of the designated program along with providing critical outreach to the target area related to the programs assigned. All program coordinators report to the program director and are expected to work collaboratively with the program and organizing teams of the organization and independently to identify strategies, partnerships, and resources to drive toward defined goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain established training track (code red programming) for continued advocacy around redistricting and democracy in Black communities.
- In collaboration with the Program Director, represent the organization in key pro-democracy coalitions and partnership spaces
- Regularly evolve resource and education materials on redistricting in alignment with organizational objectives for both internal staff and the broader Black community.
- Identify opportunities, in collaboration with the Program Director, to engage the general public through media and resource sharing.
- Assisting with developing redistricting education resources and training materials to orient internal staff
- Identifying research opportunities, in collaboration with the Program Director and Special Projects & Research Associate, to support the amplification of Code Red in the community.
- Support, in collaboration with Policy Director (Advance Carolina), democracy bill tracking for the North Carolina Black and Brown Policy Network
- Collaborating with strategic partners to develop education and resource materials for information gathering, data collection, research reports, and education.
- Continue to build strategic partnerships with local democracy community groups and state groups to advocate and inform.
- Actively collaborates with fellow Advance Carolina and NC Black Alliance regional and program coordinators and staff to deepen democracy through line in programming.
- Work in tandem with the program attorney to develop and maintain economic Justice campaign priorities
- Will hold the redistricting and democracy mini-grant process
- Conduct virtual site visits with awardees and conduct cohort trainings and quarterly cohort check-ins
- Lead design of Grantee recognition opportunities, networking strategy, and partnership alignment
Budget & Tax Center Fellowship
- In partnership with the BTC, develop fellowship processes; align fellows and fellowship curriculum objectives with the organization’s internal goals for 2025.
- Interview and select joint fellows
- Inform internal administrative team or key staff with bi-weekly fellowship updates
- Create regular fellow check-in processes and appropriate reporting structure to capture BTC fellowship progress.
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree Required
- Proficient knowledge of Voter Database Management tools, like Voter Access Network (VAN) and Relational Voter Project (RVP) databases
- Prior Knowledge or willingness/ability to learn how to utilize organizational management tools like Zoom, Google Hangouts, Basecamp, etc.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required
- Excellent working in teams and providing leadership
- Experience working in political organizations with elected officials
- Ideal candidate should reside in North Carolina
Expectations & Compensation:
- Salary Range: $60,000 to $70,000
- This is a full-time position with compensation commensurate with experience.
